Swiss Cream Roll

The July 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Sunita of Sunita’s world – life and food. Sunita challenged everyone to make an ice-cream filled Swiss roll that’s then used to make a bombe with hot fudge. Her recipe is based on an ice cream cake recipe from Taste of Home.
I chose to stop at the roll part, just because it is hot, humid, and I am packing for vacation. Some people think rolled spong cakes are hard to pull off. But with practice it gets easier. If you go on to make the bombe, you will simply cut into slices and place in a bowl as the outer skin. Then just fill it up with ice cream. It is just that easy! You can check out the recipe here. Remember it will take 2 days if you want to go on to make the Bombe.

Lots of Banana Cake.......TWD

I am back to TWD after a week without my lap top. This week's TWD recipe, the Lots-of-ways Banana Cake, chosen by Kimberly at Only Creative Opportunities is a great recipe with lots and lots of options for what to do with it. It is coconutty delicious!

This cake was so easy to throw together, especially since I had everything on hand. I will definetly make this over and over again. Super moist.......I had some caramel in the fridge, so I added That to the middle, along with some cream cheese frosting. It has been so hot and humid here, I decided not to frost the outside and let the family dig in!
We give this 5 glasses of milk,
for utter goodness!

Broken Laptop can put a person behind.....

Sorry, I have been out of touch. My computer decided to break down and I have been unable to post. What did we do before those things???
It is hard when there is only one desk top left to work on when the kids are all home for the summer. We have to put a timer near it so everyone has a fair chance. It has just been so hot and humid that they have stayed in the house alot. I think we need a pool.......
Needless to say , I have sent it in to be fixed so hopefully it will not be too long. I hope to post more often. I'll have to take my turn at the 30 minutes...LOL!

Chocolatey Tart....Indeed...

Our host this week is Dharmagirl of Bliss: Towards a Delicious Life, who chose Dorie's tarte noire - basically, a rich chocolate tart with a pie crust filled with chocolate, cream and butter. I decided to make a chocolate short crust version, and it turned out wonderful. I used the spray Pam with the added flour to prepare the pan. It came right out!
This ganache filled tart looks so smooth you could skate on it....ha, ha! It is super rich and delicious. Definitely need a side a whip topping and a large glass of milk. For this recipe check out Dorie's book "Baking from my Home to Yours" or go to Darmagirls website. You will love it!

Happy 4th and Patriotic Desserts!

Today is July 4th – a big Day here in Boston! Craig Ferguson and Toby Keith are set to go on at 10 pm EST on CBS. The 4th of July in Boston is not only a great family day, but can be completely budget friendly. All of the concerts and displays are free, and if you don’t fall into the pitfalls of paying for parking, buying those silly glow necklaces, and purchasing your meals from a variety of fried dough and hot dog vendors, then the day can cost practically nothing, while providing priceless memories.

Top Row: New York Cheesecake With Blackberry Coulis, Patriotic Parfaits,
Bottom Row: Blueberry Napoleons With Creme Fraiche, Berry Pudding Cakes, Summer Shortcake

But, of course if your staying home and having a crowd over for BBQ......Here are a few crowd pleasers fancied up just a bit. The Napoleon and Cheesecake recipes come from two fabulous food bloggers. Martha gets credit for the parfaits and shortcake, and Better Home and Gardens shares their berry pudding cake in a 4th of July slideshow. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’m leaning towards the Cheesecake of course!
Enjoy the 4th, we will be BBQ and watching the Boston Fireworks from the hillside in town. It's way too crowded to go into Boston today....:)
